Day 28 – Paying the price

Rhino On TreadmillI read an interesting article over at SparkPeople that got me thinking about my weightloss journey so far. The author quoted one of his own recent blog posts that seemed to spark a lot of discussion: “Unless you have a specific medical condition that hinders weight loss, at the end of the day, your ability to lose weight comes down to whether you’re willing to pay the price; whether you’ve reached the point of being sick and tired of being sick and tired of making the same old choices and excuses.”

I’ve made a contract with myself to lose this weight, no matter what. What struck a chord with me, though, and the point of the article was “What price are you paying?” But first, I want to look at what I’m gaining:

I’m feeling healthier. I’m eating more veggies because I’m forcing myself to. I’m losing weight. My clothes are fitting better and feeling more comfortable. I have those wonderful shadows on my body emerging where muscles are developing. My legs and arms feel more solid. My face is thinning out and my jawline becoming more defined… And all this in less than 10 pounds!

What am I paying in order to do this? Well, I’m cutting out most starchy and sugary foods. I didn’t join Ktok in finishing off the ice cream. I feel like I’m spending most of my day either sweating, showering, or writing about sweating and showering. I lose time during the day to do the things I need to get done…only to earn that time later on (usually during the weekend) because those tasks are finished.

And you know what? I don’t feel bad about it at all. I don’t regret missing out on a full bowl of ice cream when I’ve had a little 90-calorie Twix ice cream bar to give me the taste but not all the fat and calories. I’ve been enjoying cooking and learning to do more things with vegetables. I’ve made some incredibly tasty salads and tried new fruits and veggies. I love experimenting with new recipes

Best of all? I love seeing the numbers on the scale change. I’m excited for tomorrow’s weigh-in, and since my scale measures more than just weight, I know that my body fat % has gone down while my muscle mass % and body water % have gone up. I know these measurements on my scale aren’t entirely accurate, but just seeing that they are changing in the correct directions works for me.

I will continue paying the price. I HAVE to do it. The pictures that will be taken at Krystal’s wedding and at Blizzcon will last far longer than the taste of a spoonful of ice cream.

As for yesterday….

Meal #1:
1 egg
1/4 cup egg whites
1/4 bell pepper
1 cup baby spinach
~1/8 c low fat sharp cheddar cheese

Meal #2:
1/2 c rice
4 turkey mini-burgers
1 mango

Meal #3:
Salad: 1 cup romaine hearts
1 cup baby spinach
1/4 bell pepper
1/2 baby cucumber
1/4 cup low fat sharp cheddar (1/8 on salad, 1/8 on chili)
1 cup turkey chili
1 dollop low fat sour cream

Snack:
1 90 calorie Twix ice cream bar

Water:
3 Liters

SparkPeople Boot Camp videos –
Video 2 x 2 – Core
Video 3 x 2 – Legs, Thighs, Glutes
Video 1 x 1 – Cardio Kickboxing
Stationary Bike – 20 minutes, moderate pace

Sleep:
7 hours
